John (known at school and in the Navy as Norman) Carne served in the Royal Navy primarily on HMS Ajax from around 1946 to 1949 Following a call to Ministry in the Church of England, and curacies in Rochester and Strood in Kent he served as a parish priest for 23 years in two parishes in North Oxfordshire (Middle Barton and Enstone respectively). He died following a short illness on 12 August 2013 in Grantham. John maintained an interest in military history throughout his life and was a keen supporter of St Dunstan's (Blind Veterans UK) wanting to support those who had given so much for their country.
